Ember lives in your menu bar — look for the ember-orb icon at the top-right
(Ember has no Dock icon by design). Click it to open the popover, then turn on
Auto or pick a mode. Right-click the icon for quick Off / About / Quit.
FAQ
Why does Ember ask for my location?
Auto mode follows your local sunrise and sunset. Location is used only on
your Mac to compute those times and is never stored or sent anywhere. Decline
it and Ember uses approximate times instead.
What do the modes do?
Auto follows the time of day; Reading is a
warm paper-like wash; Morning is a gentle low-glare start;
Focus is a calm tint; Night is the warmest and
dimmest. The Strength slider scales any of them.
Ember tinted my photo/video editing — how do I stop that?
Open the popover → Exceptions, and add the app. Ember
automatically pauses while that app is in front and resumes when you leave it.
You can also Pause for an hour or until you resume.
I don't see a Dock icon.
That's intentional — Ember is a lightweight menu-bar app. Everything is in
the menu-bar popover.
Does Ember work with multiple displays?
Yes. The popover lets you choose which displays get tinted, and it adapts
when you plug or unplug monitors.
Does a warm screen actually help?
Ember is honest about this — tap The Science in the popover
for the research behind each mode, including what a screen tint can and can't do.
How do I remove Ember?
Quit Ember (right-click the icon → Quit), then drag the app to the Trash.
